It used to be that small retailers were being put out of business by the big retail giants. I was reminded of this while I recently watched the movie “You’ve Got Mail” where the giant Fox Books puts Meg Ryan’s small Shop Around the Corner bookstore out of business.
Now it’s the big retail giants that are worried. Witness the closing of Borders and the troubles facing Best Buy. The brick and mortar stores are just not able to add enough value for people to pay more.
Case in point: I recently decided to purchase a camera. My first stop was a specialty camera store, my second stop was a big box store and now I’m searching on-line.
